Miley Cyrus compared having a baby to having a makeup line – and honestly, fair play
The singer said “I’ve never felt the burn, you know?"
With Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty and Rihanna’s Fenty empire leading the way, we’ve grown pretty accustomed to seeing celebrities parlay their fame into makeup lines.
But Miley Cyrus is here to remind us she’s... not doing that.
In a refreshingly unbothered chat on the New York Times’ The Interview podcast, the singer made it clear that not every woman – or celebrity – needs to follow the same path as others to feel fulfilled: including when it comes to motherhood.
In her signature no-filter style, Cyrus shared a recent exchange with her stepdad to explain her approach to having children.
“He said, ‘Why are you the only celebrity without a makeup line?’ And I said, ‘’Cause I’m not passionate about it.’ And he said, ‘That’s the right answer.’”
She noted that this is the same logic she applies to the question of having kids:
“It’s just never been something that I’ve been overly passionate about. It’s a lot of responsibility and devotion and energy, and if you’re not passionate about that, I don’t know how you do sleepless nights and 18 years of what my mom dealt with. And when I say 18 years, I mean 33, ’cause I’m still a baby.”
She’s not anti-children, just anti ‘doing it for the sake of it.’
“For being such an opinionated, sure person, this is an element in my life that I’ve never been super attached to a yes or no answer,” she added.
In a world where womanhood is still so often tied to motherhood, the words feel quietly radical.

We don’t tend to question people for not doing something they’re not passionate about - unless that thing is motherhood. But as Cyrus puts it, “I’ve never felt the burn, you know? And I think for me, the burn is everything.”

100% how it should be. I was broody at 18 I knew kids were 100% what I wanted but I never assume that every woman is the same as me. I know I'm not passionate or 100% sure about thing that other women have in their life, but no feels the need to badger me about when I'm going to take up a sport.
